ABA cancellation list checklist
Ask every provider whether they keep a cancellation list, how they reach you, and how fast you must reply. Keep your phone and email current, keep intake paperwork ready, and log each list in your ABA waitlist tracker. Print this checklist so you can answer a same-day opening without scrambling.
How do I get on an ABA cancellation list?
Ask on every provider call. Confirm they keep a cancellation list, who calls you, how soon you must reply, whether declining a spot keeps your waitlist place, and what paperwork they need if a same-day spot opens. Write each answer in your tracker with the date.
Ask these on the call:
- Do you keep a cancellation list we can join, separate from the waitlist?
- Who calls or texts when a spot frees up, and which number or email should we keep current?
- How soon do we need to reply to a cancellation opening?
- If we decline a same-day spot, do we keep our place on the waitlist?
- What paperwork do you need ready if a same-day spot opens? The ABA intake checklist lists what providers often ask for.
How is a cancellation list different from a waitlist?
A waitlist is the provider's list of families waiting for a first opening, which may take weeks or months. A cancellation list is for shorter-notice spots, when a scheduled client cancels or a session frees up early. Some providers keep both under one list; others treat them separately. Ask which they use and how they contact you for each. The ABA provider call script includes this question in order.
What should I keep ready for a same-day ABA opening?
Keep your phone nearby during the hours the provider said it calls, and make sure your voicemail and email work. Keep your paperwork folder ready so you can send documents the same day. Know which days and times you can take, and whether you would consider in-home or center-based ABA. When the call comes, the ABA opening checklist covers what to confirm before you reply, and the reply template for an opening offer helps if they prefer email or text.
How do I use the cancellation list checklist?
- Print the checklist, or keep it open on your phone.
- On each provider call, ask the cancellation-list questions and write the answers in your waitlist tracker.
- Confirm how they will reach you and how fast you must reply, then keep that phone and email current.
- Keep your intake paperwork folder ready for a same-day opening.
- When a cancellation spot is offered, use the opening checklist, reply by the deadline and update your other waitlists.
Is the cancellation list checklist free?
Yes. Print it, copy it or read it from your phone. Nothing you write on it is sent to Waitless. For more logistics while you wait, see what to do while you wait for ABA and the cancellation list glossary entry.
